Don’t Give Up On Your Dreams

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 In : Mental/Spiritual Health

As a child I always had an interest in music, entertainment and announcing.  I can remember pretending to be on the radio, being an announcer or narrator just for fun, kicks or for a fun school project.  I always enjoyed doing things like this but as I grew older I left these dreams behind to pursue other interests.  I got married, got into sales and marketing, and raised a family.  After becoming a Christian, for the first time in a long time, I began to feel unsettled...

I'm Not Don LaFontaine And That’s OK

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 In : Voiceovers

I’ve always been interested in voice over work.  As a kid I pretended to be a radio DJ and did impressions of my favorite celebrities.  As I got older I became interested in voice over work but I’ve said to myself "I'm no Don LaFontaine.  I don't have that big booming movie trailer guy voice.  How could I even compete?"  Well the longer I'm in this field the more I realize that in today's voice over market, getting work isn't about the voice you have as much as it is what you can do with ...

FUN Raiser For Haiti

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Wednesday, May 12, 2010
On May 7th, my family and I got together and put on the Hernandez Family Variety Show.  It was a night of music, skits, improv and fun as we invited guests from our home church, city, and listeners of HOPE 107.9 FM (the station I work at) to come out for free and enjoy a night of laughs.

We performed songs (some of which were acted out) from my Pickles and Jelly CD along with Who's Line Is It Anyway styled improv comedy and funny skits in the style of some classic variety TV shows like Carol B...

Pickles & Jelly

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Friday, April 9, 2010 In : Funny

Recently I finished recording a comedy music album in the vain of Weird Al Yankovic and the New Zealand comedy duo “Flight of the Conchords”. The purpose of this album initially is to help raise funds to help my son and daughter go on a missions trip to Haiti to work in an orphanage. I am very proud of my kids and wanted to do something to help with their fund raising. So, since I have a warped sense of humor and some musical ability I thought “Why not a comedy music CD?”

I enj...

Hacker, Hacker, Oh How I Hate Thee

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 In : Social Networking

How to protect yourself from hackers.

I’ve tried to understand the mind of a hacker, but I’m not sure I ever will.  What is so appealing about breaking into someone’s account and screwing up their lives for the sake of sending out spam messages and garbage links that no one wants?  I guess it’s the same mentality of the “tagger” or spray paint artists who must think, “I’m just going to do this because I can”.  What a waste of a life and talent.  If only they would use th...

Benefits Of Keeping The Weight Off

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 In : Health

Over the summer of 2009, my wife and I as spokesmen for a radio client went through a weight loss program with our health coaches at Great Shape For You.  Pay and Gayle Edwards coached us through our weight loss goals using the Medifast 5 and 1 meal plan.  My first week I will admit was no fun at all but I soon got accustomed to eating smaller portions but more frequently through out the day.  In just under 8 weeks I reached my goal and lost 40 lbs.  It’s now the middle of January 2010 and ...

New Business Audio Books

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 In : Voiceovers
I just recently completed narrating two business audio books.  One called The Subtle Art Of Managing Up:  Lead Your Boss aby John Baldoni and the other written by former New York City Mayor Ed Koch called Buzz: How To Create It And Win With It.  Both of these books from Amacom Books are excellent in terms of career building and management insight and I highly recommend them.  While I was hired to narrate these books, I walked away with a lot of great insight and information to help me in my o...

Never Give Up

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Saturday, November 14, 2009 In : Voice Overs

I did a fun interview with Voice Coaches the other day.   They are the organization where I received my training from.   While I have a long way to go in terms of reaching my utltimate goals of going full time as a voice actor, I’m getting closer all the time.  I’ve been blessed with lots of success in a reasonably short amount of time due partly to dedication and hard work, but from some great coaching and tips from pros in the voice over community and my friends at Voice Coaches.  The m...

Harper Collins Book Voiced by Paul Hernandez

Posted by Paul Hernandez on Monday, October 19, 2009 In : Voice Overs
Over the summer I worked on a book project called "Come Back, Como" by Steve Winn.  It's a funny story about a man's hilarious (and agonizing) quest to win the trust of a shelter dog that he and his family adopted.  It's a funny and touching story that is fun to read. There is now an audio version of the book available that I had the privilege of voicing. Though it was a lot of work, it was also a lot of fun.  Even had the opportunity to throw in a Hispanic and Australian character voice.

If y...
